Elsewhere I have posted progress on the stern extension on my Mk2 - HUSH and I will return to that tonight. I've been away skiing and, on my return, I find that my lovely yard have rebuilt my unlovely rudder casing - for free!
Although the new transom is now virtually finished, i still have not really decided on what sort of rudder and tiller mechanism to employ. I may still go with Rod Chisholm design, or some other transom hung alternative or i might even go for a spade rudder. So, I asked the yard to put the old one back and I'd live with it for a season and find out from experience what i did and did'nt like. Well, bless them, they could'nt bear the idea of their gleaming new transom being adorned by this ugly casing so they:
- Sheathed the whole thing with light plastic sheet (the same as was used for the transom former)
- Covered this with glass matting and resin
- Beefed up the top leading edge, where the tiller meets the casing
- Gell coated the lot
- shaved off that ugly lip at the bottom of the casing
It now shines as brightly as the new transom.
Thanks a lot guys.
