Forum software upgrade

Dear all,
Ron, I and now Paul are struggling to upgrade our forum software as our host provider can cease supporting it pretty soon. Neither of us is a pro, we are learning on the fly so if anyone has experience with things like phpPP, PHP, MySQL and the like - we need your help! Also, due to ongoing work which typically happens between 10pm an 1am, the forum may temporarily become unresponsive, please pardon our dust!
