Hull liner crack at forward end of centerboard trunk

Post by agprice22 »

Has anyone experienced a hull liner crack at the forward end of the centerboard trunk? I am hoping this has nothing to do with the mast compression post!

Thanks,

I suspect that most of us never look under the cover of the centerboard trunk. Mine was fine when I replaced the centerboard several years ago and I have not looked since.

Recently, Tony Smith and I discussed cap shroud tension and he was concerned that too much could cause to high a load on the post in the cabin holding up the mast. I think he was mainly concerned with the load on the boat hull, not just the post. All theoretical. of course.

By the way, I did cut out the liner at the forward end of the centerboard trunk. There was no crack in the trunk or hull itself, and there has never been any leaking. I extended my cut a little, and I removed a thru-hull for the depth transducer and glassed it over. I installed a new system under the companionway step.
