Progress. The Electrical Panel backer, cut from plywood

Covered the port window side interior with vinyl to match the electrical panel backer.

Before fitting the panel, I made a cover for the bracket bolts.

The Cover will be painted white once the screw holes are filled and the seams puttied. The cover will be screwed into a top bracket screwed and glued onto the coachroof.

I also cut out a wooden bottom for the backer and will be fastening the backer to it for installation. Once the backer is installed, I'm ready to start working on the port bunks. This should be interesting. Hopefully, I can keep up this pace.

Here's a rough sketch of the plan for the upper port bunk. The lower one will be a fixed settee bottom with a cushion.

Finished up the electrical panel. It looks nice. Fitted the first support for the Ceiling. I'm considering Oak Lattice Ribs on the Ceiling rather than plastic. There's plenty of fastening strength.

Here is the base of the electrical panel being fitted.

It was cleated and the bottom was covered in vinyl.

The vinyl was reglued and refitted over the plywood before being fitted with a mounting cleat for accepting screws set through the locker wall.

Here is the base fastened in place. The block you see was temporary and removed as soon as the base was completely fastened.

I like the idea of using Lattice for the cieling but I think I'll go with Oak rather than plastic. Not crazy about the plastic.

Port Bunks are cut. I'm going to have to frame them on the bottom for strength and rigidity, I'm just just not sure how yet. I bought some Oak Lattice to cover the edges of the plywood. I have some old teak too from the original boat. This should be fun designing the bunks. Here's the seat and back. It looks like I got the size right. I'm glad I eliminated the lower doors on the oilskin lockers. The bottom of the port locker looks like it would be a perfect place for a fire extinguisher.

From this angle, you can see the overhang on the top that will cantilever (hopefully). I would guess that the back will come up a few more inches by the time I'm done positioning it. I have to figure out what thickness cushions I want. Is there any decent thin foam that you can sleep on or is 3" to 4" closed cell the only option?

I was worried about the room on the top bunk, but it looks like it will be okay.

That cedar plank was put there to prop up the top bunk but it makes me think that folding legs that swing down from the top bunk would be cool. Hmmmmm. I was also worried that the storage compartments would not be accessible when the top bunk is up. It looks to have enough clearance. I was thinking that those cabinets would be a great place to store a sleeping bag or bed linens. I like the idea of a sleeping bag for each bunk in one of those vacuum bags.

My Telstar is finnaly starting to look like a boat. The blue cast from the tarp looks nice inside the cabin. I think I'll go with fairly bright cushions. Maybe blue or a tripical print.

After fitting the bunks in-place, I had to revisit the support for the hing around which the upper bunk will cantilever. My plan is to use a piece of teak trim on the front that will cover the storage bins and make them look trimmed. I am screwing that into an oak 1 x 2 on the other side of the shelf's fiberglass lip. That oak piece will be epoxied to the base of the shelf and the lip with West 404 adhesive. Then, I'll screw through the front trim into the oak backer. Once it dries, it should be plenty strong to support the bunk when it rotates. The added bonus of using the 1 x 2 oak backer is that it finishes off the vinyl step that I made under the electrical panel.

I have the original trim for under the port cabinets. I have ground back the mast support a tiny bit to square off the cabinets.

It looks I've gone about as far as I can without shifting my raw materials around. I cleaned out the forpeak and decided to glue in the liner before I did anything else. I'll probably do the same in the main cabin. I will then put a piece of plywood in the forepeak for now, so I can store the wood I will be using to finish the port side. Then I have to clean the main cabin again from the grinding of the cabinets. There is dust everywhere. Once that is done, I can reset my mitre saw and get ready to finish the port side. Here is the fiberglass liner in the forepeak glued in. As you can see, all it needs is quarter round trim on the top. The bottom will be covered by the 1/2" plywood insert that will fill the triangle peak.

The good thing is that I have enough daylight these days to put in an hour or an hour-and-a-half a few weeknights so that I am more productive during the week.
