Adding Mast Clutches

Post by Tri’d n Sail’d »

I was helping some fellow T28 friends with their boat today and noticed they had 3 clutches on their mast (see pic). They were there when the boat was purchased. I would like to duplicate... Does anyone have experience adding these?

I put 3 clutches on my mast when I first got the boat around 12 years. Used Lewmars - better rated back then. Same ones that hold the ama lines under the seats. I'm pretty sure I drilled and tapped the mast to mount them.

Sounds good and thanks - like the continuity of that. Did you install a threaded insert or did you just tap the mast and bolt into that?

Tapped mast and used stainless machine screws. Maybe stronger, not sure.
