Raising the main

Post by wooden »

Has anyone developed a system to raise and lower the main sail from the cockpit? I have looked at options to do so and I think it would be safer and more practical for a single handed sailor.

Gene,

I appreciate the reply, but try as I might I can not find the section you are referring to. You said it is under Main Halyard..... Screecher. I did multiple searches throughout the forum and could not find it, and "scrolling down to the next page" means what? Sorry for the confusion, and perhaps I am just missing something simple, and I am grateful for the reply, but could you give me a section and heading that I might be able to find. Thanks.

I am glad to here someone else can not find it. I thought I was going crazy. I wonder if there is an issue with everyone being able to see every topic. I am signed in, and I assume I have access to every section and every item, but that does not appear to be the case.

Try this link to the stated topic. The thread in question is on the 2nd page of the summary.

Not sure if it's mentioned, but you'd better get some ball bearing low friction blocks or sheeves wherever the halyard changes direction. It could be a pretty hard horizontal pull from the cockpit.

Thanks Ron, I found it, and in the process realized what Gene was trying to tell me. I did not realize that some of the section topic areas had multiple pages. Gene"s instructions to "go to page 2" is now clear to me. Thanks to the both of you.

ok, i did find the 2 page but it's only talking about the screacher, nothing about raising / lowering the main sail from the cockpit. Or I did not find the right page?

Michel,

Try this link. It shows a picture and description of the halyards running aft, from a blog site of another telstar owner.
