Attaching main to boom

Photo of link attached. It's probably about 1 foot long, which moves the furler about 2 feet back (or up) when the mast is down and you swivel the two ends on the link. The spinnaker / screecher halyard exit is about 2 feet higher. Note the fitting about 8 inches lower on the mast which redirects the halyard. The next post will show this line when swiveled back.

The flexible link swiveled back to move the stay and furler back. This is enough to catch the furler drum on the mast base.

You must have one of the tall rigs. Tony occasionally built one, but then changed his mind and dropped the option. There are probably 3 or 4 of them around. I tried to order it but they wouldn't build one at that time. He apparently was concerned with the length of the mast while trailering - it stuck out too far in back. It also interefered with the bimini because the boom was lower, but he must have created your extension to compensate. He was still playing with the boat design and options when they finally stopped making them.

Most of the boats do NOT have this flexible link. You don't really need it either, so why do it? You can rig something in front to support the furler drum if required. If you do it, I don't think you'll have to cut the furler extrusion, just shorten the wire stay.
