Let's Share - The North Channel

Post by Cathyalan »

The North Channel runs between Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and Little Current, Ontario Canada on the west end of Georgian Bay. The Channel runs 100 miles east to west and about 25 miles south to north. The southern barrier between the North Channel and the rest of Lake Huron is primarily a 60 mile long elongated island called Manitoulin. The eastern end of the Channel has many granite islands with numerous anchorages. No people on the islands and not many in the area, only a few very small towns on the Canadian mainland and 3-4 villages on Manitoulin. It is unbelievably beautiful with crystal clear, warm water, pink granite, wildlife, woods, and pristine conditions.
Paper charts are an absolute must. We are also fortunate to have the Great Lakes Cruising Club www.glcclub.com which has many anchorage/harbour reports.
