I have only drawings for a Mark I. I can vouch for the accuracy of those drawings because brackets made from them are on my Mark I.

I think that the bulges that were added to the Mark II cabins change the bracket sizes. I don't know if the Mark I tracings would be of any use to you. If you want what I have, let me know, I can copy them for you.

Adley,

Are you still looking for the bracket drawings? I have not been to this site for awhile due largely to family medical issues. I was able to locate the original ones that I made my brackets from. I can put them in the mail today if you still need them.

Regards,

Lou

Hi everyone, it is my pleasure to join the Telstar community. I am an owner of a Telstar 8М (1980). Just about to start my project and the first issue is the absence of the hull braces/struts. They were probably lost by the previous owner. I would really appreciate if anyone could assist me with drawings of the struts or were to find new or used ones. Please see attached photos of hinges.

Anna, welcome to the Telstar community!

I can help as I have a complete US-built 8m (#256) from that era. I'm away from home at the moment, but when I return I will measure the struts and post the information here, hopefully by the first week in October. Sorry for the delay as I haven't been active for a while.

In the meantime, you might consider removing all the brackets and have them cleaned up and re-galvanized - be sure to keep track of their location just in case there is a difference (not that I'm aware of).

Anna,
I pulled out the struts from my garage and made a rough drawing with dimensions. The material is galvanized steel 1-1/2" square tubing. I think it is 0.250" wall thickness but builds up to around 0.300 wall thickness with galvanizing, but I may be wrong and the original wall thickness may be greater than 1/4". The holes for the pin are a tight fit and need to account for galvanizing buildup.

In any case, I would be inclined to have these made from 316 Stainless Steel.

The pins are tapered so you can simply tap them in with a hammer. I put a washer under the head and at the other end before the hairpin cotter pin. I keep the pointed end to the outside so I can simply lean over and verify that the hairpin is still seated. I replaced the hairpins with real cotter pins for my passages to/from Alaska or whenever I was doing any offshore sailing, but the hairpins are nice and quick when trailering.

Anna, check your PM as I left you a message.
