Steel skeg on the hull. Why?

On the underside of my hull approximately 800mm from the transom is a steel skeg. Can anyone advise me what this is for? Is it for drying out purposes or is it left over from when the engine was fitted?

Sounds like a remnant from a sail drive. I recall that there was at least one Telstar that was fitted with an inboard/saildrive combination. Pictures?

Thanks for the response. It looks as though it was from an engine prop drive. The boat is in a boat shop in the UK and I am in Qatar. So can't get a picture.

I haven't seen the boat in the water yet, nor have I seen her dry out. It was a suggestion that it may be a drying out a skeg.

Does your boat have one? If no I will not have removed.

No. My boat originally had a UA jet drive and Bombardier engine. Tony gave up on that design very early due to electrolysis.
