Dogs for the Ama Hatches.

I want to keep the original ama hatches if possible. At least, I want to try to make them as water-tight as possible. I have found some decent rubber hatch gasket material that should work, if I can keep the hatch tightly fastened over it. The handle/catch made by Tony is inadequate. Plus, the hole for the handle is probably a source of leaks. I was thinking that a dogged hatch might have a chance of being water-tight. The existing handle could be epoxied in place to ensure that it is not a source of leaks. Then a couple of dogs could be added.

They would have to be able to tighten down a half-inch or so to properly compress the rubber hatch gasket.

So, has anybody done something like this? Any idea where to get dogs that can be attached to the hatch cover?
