I intend to use your method to do the same to my new boat so I can add a sugar scoop with steps off the main hull. She is a 1967 fiberglass built boat, Corinthian 41, designed by Ted Irwin, the only multihull he ever designed that went into production. He is fairly well known here since he is from Florida; his general most favored design is the Irwin 43 Center cockpit monohull. In his Corinthian 41 Tri, a center cockpit designed multihull, he borrowed heavily in the design from Piver and Cross, the unique thing he did is with the amas, they are asymmetrical. This should improve its pointing ability, she has no boards of any kind. This was actually the first fiberglass multihull design that was put into production in the U.S. Prior to this boat, folks in N. America purchased production multihulls built in England and marketed by Symons Sailing, Inc - out of New York.
Symons' were importing multihulls from England, selling the Iroquios 30 catamaran designed by Rod McAlpine-Downey of Sailcraft, they also marketed his larger designed cats; the other multhull they marketed in the U.S. was the Telstar by the then up and coming Tony Smith of the then A.J.S. Sandwich Yacht Construction Ltd. in England, later to become Performance Cruising, Inc in the U.S. Symons' figured they could save shipping costs, make more money if multihulls were built in the U.S. So they commissioned Irwin for this design.
Ted Irwin was such a stickler for how his designs were built, and because he was from Florida, he had the boat built in Florida by Corinthian Yachts Builders in Tarpons Springs, FL were he could oversee the builds. That is how the boat got its name as the "Corinthian" 41. They were built from 1965 thru 1993 with 28 built, all custom builds for each new owner, mine is hull #12. Both the masts have been upgraded and replaced and she is on her second diesel engine, perkins 4-108. She needs some deck work where the balsa core has weakened due to water intrusion but then she is 43 years old.
