I recently bought an ah1000 autohelm which appears to work fine. My boat must have had one fitted as there is a tube set into the transom with the bush for the autohelm body. The autohelm itself though was missing. Not wanting to pay a lot or get into the electronics of the newer versions I plumped for the old AH1000. Unfortunately the tube is mounted on the port side and apparently autohelms are designed to be fitted on starboard. On later models they can be adapted but on this model a porthand adapter kit is required. These seem to be like hens teeth, I've never seen one advertised.
So the question is; does anyone know if it is just a matter of repositioning the compass rose on the top of the unit or should I buy a later model that can be adjusted for porthand use?. It does make sense to mount it on the port side on my boat as my outboard occupies the starboard quarter.
