Yeah there are usually 5 or 6 guys, all owners, who are pitching in but I figure they are having fun somewhere. With the oil spill at my door step I am reluctant to put mine back in the water just yet. I still need to do some minimal things before I launch and I am nearly recoverd from a shoulder surgery. So I will pursue the work on the boat, I have her in my drive way and I can wait and see what the coming weeks bring. I am about 45 minutes by boat to the Gulf entrance. Some oil has been found inside the Pensacola Bay, which is two bays over from me. With the increased wave action from Hurrican Alex there has been a further breach of the oil in to Pensacola Bay. If they are unable to capture this type of stuff, eventually it will work it's way back to the bayou's and estuaries where all the breeding and young aquatic life is born or lives. All ready ALL of the commercial fishing back in the bayous for crab and shrimp has stopped. Any seafood we get we either capture ourselves, crab nets, or if I go to the seafood shop they are getting their seafood well east of here, but the oil moving in that direction as well, so it is only a matter of time when that is gone.

I think just figured out what you meant.

Reduce what photos you want to post to 640 pixels or smaller to start with. If you need help with this let me know. Open a NEW message or REPLY window on this forum, scroll down a bit and you will see a tab labelled UPLOAD ATTACHMENT. Click on this tab. Click on BROWSE, go to the photo(s), you can load up to 3 photos per message. Select one photo at a time you want to upload, up to 3 total, and place them in the message box by using the "place in line" selection, after the upload(s).

I hope I followed what you were saying.

Thanks for the photos, they are a little to large, they need reduction in size for easier viewing, but I do appreciate the photos. Beautiful boat.

Thank you. I was lucky to find a 1972 mk 1 with such good hulls she was obviously epoxied and the hulls are gel coat except where I have done some cosmetic work but no osmosis anywhere. I need to improve my posting skills though.

Well, that is a good question. The boats built in the U.S. have a metal plate riveted to either the starboard or Port side of the stern. I attached a link that shows a couple photos for you to see what to look for. This standard was not in place until the mid 1970's over here, don't know about over there, I realize yours is a 1972 model. I suspect there could be numbers located in other places in the boats but I have not been able to get direct information from the builder and manufacturer, though I have tried.

Welcome Johnco and hi Pat - I'm glad your shoulder is on the mend, i was about to ask.

2 or 3 months down the line now and I'm still pleased with the Blakes deck coating stuff but we'll see at the end of the season. Telstar owners are popping up regularly now and I thought it might be an idea to create a register. Every boat is different and can give inspiration to others. I know that there are at least 6 older models within 10 miles of me ( Chichester harbour, U.K.) and I know that I am the only one of them on the ITOA. I don't know if there is a single 'new' one in the UK.

Dan/Ron - what do you think about a register? I think it would be good to have some fixed fields such as Boat name, model, year of manufacture, sail nbr,hin (if known), call sign, location, owners name and (optional) personal userid,date acquired, major modifications and then - loads of photos!

A register of ALL Telstars would be a good thing to have. I don't think the Forum is the right place for it though - it's more suited for these kinds of single messages. It would be awkward to store the data and use it here - a different post for each boat? Our website is the much better choice, but that's up to Dan. I don't have access to it. I'd like to move our documentation to there as well, and maybe setup a ship's store, etc.
