Johnathan,

Here are some links to the E-Z Steer:

http://www.marinetechproducts.com/pages/EZFitGuide

The E-Z Steer linkage has plastic ball joint sockets with a bronze ball with a male quick disconnect configuration which mate to a quick disconnect fittings mounted on the brackets. The quick disconnects are the same type that are used for compressed air fittings. This arrangement allows for simple and quick removal of the E-Z Steer linkage. For my set up I made my own bracket for the tiller and mounted one of the female disconnect fitting to it and mounted the other female quick disconnect fitting to the top of the outboard motor.
You will notice in the photos that the smaller diameter stainless steel tube has grooves in it. These are detent grooves for the spring loaded detents on the larger tube that allow the inner tube to telescope into the larger tube for length adjustment. Once the correct length is determined tightening the detent set screw locks the detent and consequently the length.

I found that I had to experiment with the linkage geometry for the correct locations of the female quick disconnect fittings to get full swing of the tiller and corresponding full swing of the motor.

The set up works very well but is not ideal because it does require removal and replacement of the motor end of the linkage when raising, lowering and tilting the motor.

I will not be getting back to my boat for a couple of months so I hope this helps in the meantime.

Best regards
Geoffrey

I got so tired of having carburetors rebuilt due to ethanol gumming, I wanted a fuel injected motor [also for fuel economy]. The lightest i could find was Merc 25/30 at 157 lb, not much heavier than my Honda 15 that was 110#. I beefed up the motor mount and added more blocks and it is more solid and easier to raise. see links
I cruise at 7 and can go 9 kn. it is quiet and starts first time, even with pull start.
Sure it is not quite on its lines, but much of that is due to me being 270#.
