Insurance for a Trimaran Sailboat: Denied!

Talking about the boats in general, that don't fit in the other categories.

Insurance for a Trimaran Sailboat: Denied!

Post by splashy_sam »

Huh, I just started hunting for insurance for a pending Telstar purchase and BoatUS/ Geiko categorically denied me when they learned it was a multihull sailboat!! They said too many claims from multihull sailboats and don't issue policies for such boats. :?

Most marinas say you need insurance to come play bumper boats...

So who's liking their boat insurance company and who are you using that will still insure we rascally tri hull sailors? And what trouble do we usually get up to to get kicked out of insurance categorically?

Thanks all!!

I like that home insurance angle. Somebody mentioned tying it to the home umbrella policy and I thought that was great.

I did find Progressive would give me a quick boat quote and policy. I will do that the first year and look to get it all combined after. Flo is rocking the sailor hat. : )

Thanks Tri’d n Sail’d !

I've been using Progressive for about 10 years now. Never a problem.

After repairing my boat and getting it back in the water, I looked for insurance. Geico was my try, and they too denied me. I then went to progressive and had no problem. Rates were reasonable for liability, which I needed to put the boat in a marina. Comprehensive was a bit pricey, however. Fine with me.
