Earlier Telstars included?

Is this forum for Telstar 28 owners only or does it include older Telstars?

If the boat's a Telstar, you're more than welcome to be here... It includes the 26, the 35 and the 28... which is the latest version. Where do you sail out of??? Any photos of your boat???

There's another Telstar Association that seems to be operating primarily in the United Kingdom and caters entirely to the older boats, but it may be nearly dormant now. I subscribed to their Yahoo email list (out of Ireland?) and I get a few emails a year. One of them is usually an "Is anyone out there?" post. They apparently had a few members in the US as well, but that link has vanished.

I once asked them if they were interested in pooling our resources somehow. That does not necessarily mean to merge, but that could be an option. Don't think I got an answer. The invitation is still open.

Thanks for your kind replies. My Telstar an 8 M was built in the U.K. in 1979 and sold in the U.S.A. I have owned it and sailed it on the Chesapeake Bay since 1985. Unfortunately it has not been sailed much in the last 8 years due to family issues and damage at the boatyard. The damage has been expertly repaired and I am now in the process of refitting.

I was a member of the North American Telstar Owners Association until it disbanded and was at one time associated with the group in the U.K. Now that I hope be sailing again I thought I would reconnect and in doing so found this forum. I will also join the folks in the U.K. BTW the old Telstar group in the U.S.A. was headed up by Joe Suidszinski a veteran multihull sailer who has pushed his Telstar 26 to the limit. He now has a Seawind 1000 that he sailed in Australian waters for many years and then shipped it to the U.S.A. His website http://www.katiekat.net is a very illuminating and an interesting read which includes some of his Telstar exploits. The now defunct website for the North American Telstar Owners Association is http://www.telstartri.org also has some interesting stuff on the early Telstars.

At present I do not have any digital photos of my boat but will correct this soon.

You may be the only original Telstar on this list. As Dan said, you're welcome to join it. We will help with whatever we can. Since your boat is on the Chesapeake, you should sail over to PCI (Annapolis - on Back Creek) one of these days. Tony would probably get a kick out of seeing one of his original boats.

We look forward to getting the orignal boats involved and possibly making some sort of arrangement with what's left of the UK Owners Association.

I’d love to see your boat at some point. I’ve read much of what Joe Suidszinski had written while researching boats prior to purchasing my Telstar 28. I would second the recommendation that you go visit PCI, as I think Tony would really enjoy seeing one of his older boat designs in person. The seaworthiness of the Telstar 8m was one of the major reasons I chose to buy a Telstar 28. Although neither was really designed as a bluewater passage maker, unlike the Telstar 35, I believe that they’re both solid little boats and capable of doing such.

Hi Geoffrey:

I found my way to this site when I started to refit my boat again a month or so ago. I had put that project on hold a few years ago when work overwhelmed any chance of continued recreational activities. When things finally calmed down this year, I started back where I left off years ago. I think I was the final link in circulating the old newsletters and when I fell by the wayside, the newsletters stopped comming as well. Anybody that had questions, I was sending them to Joe's travel site.

Anyway, I'm glad to see the Telstar being built again. The operators of this site have been very gracious to those of us with old boats. I even got an email from Joe the other day. It was nice to hear from him.

Looking forward to getting back in touch and, eventually bringing my boat to the Cheseapeak for an extended cruise. I think I will moore her in Cape May bacause of the fine offshore sailing, even through the summer.

Today I joined the ITOA because I have finally started seriously working on my boat. After so many years it really feels good to be doing boat work and knowing that my Telstar will be sailing once again.

Great to hear from you. Sorry about this late reply but I had to neglect my Telstar once again in 2009 and had seriously considered selling it.

Did you get to sail last season?

Was the Joe you wrote about Joe Suidzinski?

I am presently making some extender tangs for the new forestay to accommodate a roller furler so I better get back to work.
