Do PMs work?

Hi all,

I tried to send a PM to a member who turns out to be located within 2 hour drive from us. It shows in my Outbox, but my Sent folder is empty. Did I do something wrong or is it the way PMs are supposed to work on this forum? Of course the person I was PMing to may have decided not to respond, this is fine, just want to make sure my PM reached him.
