I have found that tacking can sometimes be a hassle when single handing in 20+ knots. The boat comes through the wind fine but then rounds back up if you are not careful. The boat will immediately go backwards and thus continuing to push the tiller over will just make things worse. I find gybing to be less of a pain in these conditions - and you can't get stuck.
