Battery Replacement

Post by Cathyalan »

For what it's worth, I have 2, deep dish Interstate 85amp batteries and an Aurinco, 25 Watt solar panel (18x16). www.aurinco.com with a 2 battery controller.
I have a 1.7 cubic foot refrigerator, CF50, www.waeco.com
The solar panel is mobile, I put it where the sun is using a twine and sisters to attach it to the hand holds or a stanchion so it won't slip off and put it on a non-skid pad. I have about 18 feet of 14 gauge wire going into the nav station through the hatchway...a bit awkward at times so crew needs to be aware, but it works.
We sailed for a week on Green Bay in June and the batteries supported the refer, lights, instruments and started the motor with no problem. Voltage stayed at 12.4-12.8 all the time.
We sailed Grand Traverse Bay for a week in July and same story.
We will be sailing the North Channel for 17 day in August and I fully expect to keep my batteries charged and my beer cold all the time.
