I went buy and borrowed PCI's test unit. I will swing by the boat and test it out tonight or tomorrow. The funny thing is the unit just went out of the two year warranty a few days ago.

Well it is not the display unit so off to the mast connector.

It ended up being water in the mast connector.

By the way, the correct voltage readings for 5 kts of wind are around 3 VDC.

Does anyone know the part # for the connector at the base of the mast for the wind transducer cable. My wind display refused to work when I went out yesterday and, given we have had a very wet winter, I suspected that water had got into the connector. When i took the tape off to look, that was the case AND some of the cables seem to disconnect. Can't see how to open the plug to resolder so was wondering how to get a replacement.

I checked in the manual and cannot see a reference to it

thanks,

Simon -

The latest copy of the manual has this on page 20 -
---------------------------------------------------------
Deck Plugs

The two electrical sockets on the deck (located at the base of
the mast) provide power to the mast head light and connect
the wind transducer to the ST60 Plus W ind instrument.
The 7-pole plug is used for the wind wire and uses the
following wiring layout. Each terminal has a small indicator
number next to it.
1: RED
2: YELLOW
3: BLUE
4: GREEN
6: GROUN D WIRE
The wires use solder connection. The make and model are:
Hella Plug/Socket,12V 7 Pole Plug and Socket # 62874
The mast head light uses a 4 pin socket. Only two of the
terminals are used (positive/negative). The make and model
are: Hella Plug/Socket, 12V Pole Plug and Socket #62873

--------------------------------------------------------------
You can probably re-solder the wires at the connector and then apply silicone to seal it. I bought an extra connector, but fixing the connection seems to work just as well.

Thanks... I was looking in the wrong place - the ST60 Owner's Handbook - not the Telstar Owners Manual..

Glad to hear I may be able to resolder vs buy new. It was not apparent to me how to open the plug to get access to the terminals so you could resolder the wires (they were broken inside the plug) - is there some secret there ?

Thanks again

I will answer Simon’s old question since no one else has. After hours of searching for how to disassemble the Hella 7 pin plug I finally grabbed some pliers and found out:
The 7 pin plug separates in the middle, just behind the screw ring. Hold the flats on the end of the plug(next to the sealing plug) and CCW unscrew the end of the plug where the pins are. Or rather unscrew the barrel of the plug and hold the pin end so you don’t disconnect any more of the wires where they solder into the pins. Easy to re-solder to the pins then. Good luck but expect to have to do this repair with any boat in salt water or with clumsy Capt/Crew that steps on the wires at the mast and pulls them apart in the plug.
