You definitely want the longer leg. Even with the 20 you will get some hobby horsing in big seas.

I have been looking at engines for my 26' Mark 1. Most of the owners had 9.9 outboards. I was thinking along those lines until I read this thread. The 20hp version of the Honda I was looking at is only 10 pounds heaver than the 9.9. I wonder if it's worth the extra pounds and weight to have the extra power? Any older boat owners want to weigh in?

I changed my 20hp Honda out for a 30hp Suzuki. I absolutely love it. Not much of a weight difference, but I get a little better push and a bit more speed. What I like about it most is that it is so quiet I can sometimes hardly hear it. In addition, the fuel efficiency is impressive. The white engine looks good on this boat as well.
