I'm in the process of getting a new outboard for my mk2 Telstar 26 and see this as an opportunity to renew/update the connection to the boat tiller.

At the moment I have a wooden home made tiller on the old outboard and a metal connecting rod to the boat tiller. Is this the best method?

Does anyone have photos of their connection?

Can't help with photo's, and I have a newer Telstar 28. But wouldn't it work better the other way - tiller going to rudder first, and then add a linkage rod to the motor when needed?

Sorry Ron perhaps I wasn't very clear.

The outboard has a home made longer wooded tiller, and yes the linkage from the outboard to the boat tiller is only used when the outboard is used. At other times they are not connected. Were you suggesting linking the outboard to the rudder rather than the boat tiller?

On my Telstar 8m I use an EZ-STEER linkage. Its ends attaches to the motor and tiller box with what appears to be repurposed pneumatic quick connects. On my setup one end remains connected to the tiller box with the linkage resting alongside the tiller handle when not in use. Then when needed the free end is snapped into the quick connect on the motor. Sorry I am not at my boat so no photos. Here is EZ-STEER's website:

In an ideal setup both the tiller and motor should both rotate thru their respective full swing angles. Consequently the linkage geometry will require some simple math and trial and error to achieve this.
