I can do about 8 knots under power without over-revving the 20. But I did change the prop to a high thrust model though. The stock 3 blade was totally wrong for a sailboat. I understand that the 50's can do around 13. Personally, I'd be somewhat uncomfortable with the extra 120 pounds of weight back there. This is a sailboat (so is the McGreggor?) But each to his own.

I switched from the 50 to the 20 and am very happy with the result. Cruising at 6 knots I went from 1.5 gallons/hour to under 3/4. I changed the stock propeller to a four blade that Tohatsu provides. I also can do 8 knots wide open. The 50 would push the boat at 14 knots, but I couldn't carry enough fuel to make it useful. With the 50, even at 6 knots, I was always worried about the next refueling stop while cruising. The loss of 120 pounds really improved the sailing.

Looking at a 20 hp Suzuki, 119 lbs with long shaft, elec start and power tilt. Seems to offer reserve power if needed, for not much additional weight.
