Motor shifting problem
I don't think I've ever tried to shift from forward to reverse (or back) without stopping for a second in neutral. A single long throw at a higher rpm rpm could damage the gear box. Give it a second to get back to idle or close to it. This could be a safety feature built into the remote or shift mechanism. The fact that it will shift into reverse when you pause for a moment seems to show this.
